Rationalisation

I guess the first thing people normally write about when they begin a blog is their rationale for doing so. To be completely honest, I did it to track down the secret blog of my girlfriend (I thought by signing up I way be able to access some members-only search of blogspot). Fortunately none of that was necessary, for - as you may have already noticed - the silly girl replied to my initial post with a link to her profile..

Now that I have joined, however, I've decided that a blog would be a good way to divert my attention from Championship Manager, a passtime that has completely dominated my spare time for the best part of 2 months. As is my way, when I quit something addictive I have to transfer my effort to something equally as addictive but less harmful to my health, finances or social life. Compare this current example to my recent effort to quit smoking. Whilst I have successfully gone four weeks without a cigarette, I now require at least 3 cups of tea each day.. Four weeks ago I wouldn't drink tea if it promised eternal life, now my need for it has directly substituted my need of nicotine. And to show how this meets the crtieria detailed above, I am now saving up to $50 a week that would've gone towards ciggies, I am actually able to run out a game of basketball (but not yet a game of indoor soccer) and the cloud of filth that smelled like an old sock soaked in bong water no longer follows me around wherever I go. My girlfriend does still smoke and to her all I can say is "I envy you.."

Coupled with the need to rid myself of Manager, is my obvious need of practise in an area I previously rated myself (ie. I thought I could write). I have recently decided that the only career I could enjoy would be that of a professional writer. The only thing that stands in my way, however was the fact that I hadn't written anything that wasn't being graded since year 9. Until recently I had maintained the delusion that I could actually write. It was my girlfriend who eventually burst my bubble, when after I decided to finally put some ideas to paper and begin the short story I had been thinking about, she read the first two pages and nearly pissed herself laughing (it wasn't a comedy). Anyway, despite this being stream-of-consciousness rambling, at least its writing.

In closing, I think its fair to say that as soon as I get home this afternoon I'll switch on the laptop, fire up Manager and this blog will never be heard of again. On the other hand, if I begin posting here semi-regularly, you'll know that I have successfully kicked another habit and am once again able to leave my room despite there being only a week until the transfer deadline...

PS: Hana, I know you've changed your blog address so nobody finds it. Its not that shit...

Everyone else (specifically bounty hunters), my previous post still applies...
